Meals, snacks and world war 1

One of the things cruises are known or popular for is the food. Specialty restaurants, main dining, all-you-can-eat buffet, and more. Each night, in the dining room, is usually based on a theme. French, Mexican, Italian, Caribbean, and so on. The food is usually really good and the wait staff is even better. We are doing 2 specialty restaurants within our 13 days. Chops which is a great steakhouse and Giovanni's which is an Italian restaurant. You have a variety of places you can eat your meals so specialty dining is really not needed but if/when you are celebrating a special occasion or get a large sum back for onboard credit via a specific qualifying cruise and want to use it up, the specialty dining can give a celebration a notch up.

The first night in the main dining room, I had prime rib and it was not my favorite. It was dry and tough. Baked potato and cheesecake is hard to screw up. Last night was chicken cordon Blu with mashed potatoes. Pretty good but, I make mine at home from scratch would give the chef a run for his money. Apple cobbler is and has always been my favorite. Last night was again, pretty weak.

Tonight was night 3 and Caribbean night in the MDR (Main dining room) and the appetizer was coconut shrimp. Best bite I have had on the ship and my first hot bite. Next was a jerk chicken with red beans and rice. Spicy and I had to drink lots of water, eat bread & butter, and dessert, just to get rid of the spicy jerk pork seasoning out of my mouth. Wow! Over seasoned for sure! The dessert was pineapple sunshine cake. Not bad but again, I have had better.

Breakfast the first morning was a fiasco. We are in a suite, so we can have specialty breakfast in Chops Grill every morning.

When we arrived, there was no line, no wait, no anything. There were about 6 tables full and the restaurant probably holds 50 tables, so it was pretty empty. Then, we waited 25 minutes to order. Chris was happy, sort of, with coffee, but could not find anyone to get him cream. Once we ordered, I noticed 2 tables off to the right, had come in after us, and their order was taken and served before ours. Another couple was served before us and came in 20 minutes after we did. Once we ordered, Chris and I debated if Windjammer next door would be better moving forward. Windjammer is the buffet on board, that has SO MANY more choices than a restaurant!

So, they came around and started serving food but tried to give us the food from the table next to us and argued when we said it was not ours. 45 minutes into being here and we have a cup of coffee with no creamer to show for it.

We started to leave and the manager stopped us at the door and begged us to stay. We didn't want to wait any longer so we told him no, we were going to Windjammer. He begged us to come back tomorrow, and when we went to dinner, 2 dining managers came to let us know they heard about our issue and wanted to fix it moving forward. The next day, we chose to eat elsewhere because I didn't want to deal with any issues. I am on vacation! Just want to eat my breakfast and go about my day.

So explain to me why we got 2 room calls and approached at lunch and dinner because we skipped Chopps for breakfast the next day? Because they actually care.

More tomorrow!
