When taking any kind of holiday, there are a lot of plans that need to come to life, but one of the most important, is how are you going to get to your destinations and how you will get back home.
Chris and I's long journey started with just that. How are we getting there and how are we getting back. So first transportation piece was the Ship to Barcelona. It is one way. Now the fun begins. How to get home from Barcelona and how to get to Miami.
In September 2023, a train rail was opened that goes from Orlando to Miami in 3 1/2 hours and costs $79 per person. The flight into Orlando from Barcelona was cheaper and got us home at a good hour. Parking near the airport was easy too.
Now getting from train to port for cruise was also pretty easy. Uber for a 2-mile ride.
So here is the list: 1. our car from home to Orlando 2. Shuttle van from car storage to train. 3. Train from Orlando Airport to Miami 4. Uber from train to port 5. Ship to Barcelona 6. Plane home from Barcelona 7. Shuttle van back to car
Then head home. Sadly we did have 1 hiccup. I bought the train tickets for the wrong day. Cost $35 to change it to April 28 instead of the 27th but they were no nice and helpful to get the ticket issue resolved!!
So let's talk about this new train thing. The train had plenty of legroom, the staff was friendly and helpful and the train itself was clean. I will say, that when your wife has short legs, always packs her whole wardrobe, and is a lollygagging walker, it is a long haul from the front door to the train. Chris took both HUGE suitcases and I took my backpack, purse, and his small overnight bag and I was still 45 steps behind him!!
Just in case you didn't know, he is 6'4 and I am wishful thinking that I am that tall!! All and all, it was a little extra work to save some major doll hairs but the experience of being on the train was really fun and I would do it again, for sure!
