War Zone Take Tres

Nothing like getting your head cut off in a picture just so you can post a picture of dessert.

When a company is trying to fix what was broken with your last visit, they, most times, overdo it. They approve things that are not usually allowed. They go out of their way to give you things to make you forget what happened before. They hover over you to make sure everything is going above what your expectations are, based on the bad experiences you had in the past. I appreciate that, but in the end, service and food need to be better because it does, not because I had a negative experience you are trying to rectify.

Last night at dinner, we were supposed to have Kenny, our waiter from breakfast. He wanted to make sure our experience was better than before. Kenny, from Nigeria, made sure we knew, he had our backs.

In the end, it didn't pan out that way. Kenny had a full-service section and there was no room to sit in his section for dinner. We had a new guy. I was afraid to start another relationship with a new server. That's what you do. You build relationships with your servers. You have the same one each time so that when you finish your cruise, they know who gave what tip. Yep, you give tips on top of the gratuities you have already paid. That is a whole different ballgame. So back to the dinner story.

Dinner was at 7:15pm and we wanted to have a drink beforehand. We headed to the Suite lounge and had pistachio martinis. Now I am not a huge fan of pistachio, but for the sake of change, I tried it. It's not a replacement for the chocolate martini, but it is a good change of pace. They also have light appetizers which we took advantage of due to early lunch, late dinner, and alcohol things. Mozzarella cheese sticks, baby fried shrimp, meats, cheeses, and a few things that honestly, I still have no idea what they were except maybe regurgitated bird food. We said hello to a few of the regulars, all who have strong accents from where they are from, and finished our drinks and snacks, and headed up to our cabin to shower and get ready for dinner.

After a shower, I put on some really cute black shoes, a maroon dress, a face, and hair. Chris in his dress shirt and black pants and shoes, we headed to dinner. Now if any of you know me, you know I have 2 painful bunions, one on each big toe and it is hard to find shoes that don't hurt my feet. Well any shoe that has a soft top, makes it easy to wear. Ha!! The new shoes are great and comfortable for all issues involved, but, there are little holes where my little toes were going through and catching on the lip of the hole!! So I am walking down the hall, kicking my foot, trying to put my pinky toe back in place. Lord, it is always something! Once we got to dinner, we were seated in the back of the restaurant and by a window. So much food and it was okay for the most part. Pretzel rolls were first to be put out cold, my husband splurged for diet cokes, and the first course, appetizer, was a slice of thick bacon with pepper. Honestly, it's not real bacon as we know it.

I was not impressed. Not hot, had no flavor and I thought it tasted like a pork chop, not bacon. Now, do not come after me! I know it is the same animal but bacon versus pork chop are 2 different tastes and if you are going to call it bacon, it should taste like bacon. On a side note, bacon on the ship is pretty good in other venues.

Next is your soup/salad course. OMG! I loved it! Baby greens, candied walnuts, thinly sliced Granny Smith apples, cranberries, and a warm, breaded goat cheese croquet. The goat cheese was warm and creamy. But it came with red onions!

Nowhere on the menu did it say red onion! Moving forward I will say, an allergy to onions. I kept my goat cheese and asked for a new salad. FYI: Goat cheese is no longer creamy and spreadable, once it gets cold. The salad was good. I kept the second croquet for my steak but it got cold and crumbly so I didn't eat it. Next was a 16 oz ribeye. I could not and would not have been able to finish 16 oz of meat, but I didn't want a filet or a NY strip.

I wanted the ribeye. I ordered it medium rare. The side dishes are supposed to be shareable but Chris ordered asparagus. I was nice and let him keep my share. I got gruyere cheese tater tots and they were not even lukewarm. They were flat-out cold. Gross. Dessert was apple pie with ice cream. Such a disappointment. Sigh, it is what it is. There were positives and negatives. Goat cheese salad was the best and I would order again.
