Specialty dining is an extra cost and we don't splurge on the extras ever. They are not needed or necessary, but every once in a while, we get extra onboard credit, and we effortlessly take the plunge. Tonight, we celebrate us. We have been together 6 years on April 21, 2024, and married 4 years on May 23, 2024. We decided to make reservations for dinner at Giovanni's.
Our meals have been subpar at best and to find a hot meal has been rare. 2 bites to be exact. The rest has been bland cold and forgettable. I have almost given up on the food, at this point. Reservations were at 7:15pm and I was hoping the ambiance would be better than at Chops, 2 nights before.
We started off with bread dipped in Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and parmesan cheese. It was a first for me but definitely a good start. The waitress was very sweet and soft-spoken and she gave us the house favorites before taking our order. When ordering on a Royal Caribbean ship, (I have not been on any other brand) you order all at once and then they bring it to you in order. Appetizer, dinner, dessert. Chris ordered Calamari as his appetizer with garlic aioli, Seafood pasta for dinner, and chocolate cannoli.
For me, we were told we could do half and half of 2 meals and to be honest, I wanted to try 4 appetizers but narrowed it down to 1 Caprese salad, with a pesto and balsamic reduction. I am not a huge fan of pesto but all in all, it was good. It would have been better if I had salted it, but I am not going to complain. The Main course was 2 dishes. Filet mignon with a steak sauce, garlic mashed potatoes with fried garlic chips, and broccolini, which I really didn't touch so I could try other things.
This was so good and those potatoes with the garlic chips were top-notch. The steak was perfectly cooked but a little on the salty side, even for me. The second dish was gnocchi with spinach and parmesan cheese in a gorgonzola cream sauce. The gnocchi was like a soft pillow of flavor and the sauce, wow! Flavor Town in a bowl. I took a chance and am so glad I did.
I couldn't eat everything but I didn't realize that half was actually a whole plate of food! I didn't even eat the dessert. I had no room for it. I would do it again if I could. PS, the food was not only good but hot.
Thank you Giovanni's for a memorable meal!!
