Alicante, Spain

Alicante, Spain was our last stop before Barcelona, Spain, and the one-stop we saw the most.

Hop on, hop off idea is popular in many states and countries, so for sure, when traveling, make sure you look to see if the option is there. A cheap and time-consuming way to see many things in the area and not have to walk to everything.

We hopped off at the market and walked around. Another thing I noticed in these ports is there are markets everywhere! Fresh meat, baked goods, nuts, and dried fruits, a little shopping but nothing I needed or wanted. Now there was a woman giving free samples of her baked goods. Yeah, talk about good. We did get a chocolate chip and a pistachio cookie for later. These markets are for those who live there. I wish we had these types of markets in Florida. And within walking distance of home.

On the back side of the market was a restaurant. We decided to try some local foods. Chris ordered coffee of some type, and I ordered a Coca-Cola light. I also noticed that every time you order one, they add a lemon or lime slice. Didn't really bother me, as I have had it or seen it in the past, but here, they don't ask if you want it, they just add it to your glass. We wanted something light due to having breakfast 4 hours ago so I ordered garlic potatoes and Chris ordered fried artichokes and Russian salad. They came to the table and I was surprised my potatoes were cold, potato salad cold. But they were good.

The artichokes were good but not by themselves. No flavor. The breading they used is where the flavor hid itself. His Russian salad was my favorite. Reminded me of when I was growing up. We were poor and to stretch a can of tuna for tuna salad, you add eggs. This was just that except they also added potatoes. So good!

One of the things I learned from watching YouTube videos was that you have to really track someone down for more drinks, getting the check, or if you need something. They do not stop by your table 20 times to see how you are doing or if you need anything. They do not have free refills of anything, including coffee and the water is a protected resource so no ice cubes.

We made it back to the ship and honestly, except for the rude family sitting next to us at the restaurant, I loved it. Next stop, Barcelona!!
