When cruising in the past, I have often wondered what it would be like to direct a ship, to be a captain. (No, I do not want to be a captain, just curious) Be able to see what they see.
A couple of days ago, we were invited to do a tour of the bridge where the captain and officers navigate the ship. Usually, this is $100+ tour but we were invited due to being in a suite. We were scanned for weapons and then given the rules. Pictures but no video, questions are allowed, and be quiet while walking through the crew hall because some work the night shift and are probably sleeping.
There was a small handful of us and so happy we decided to take them up on the offer!!! Oh my word, what a view!! So beautiful! I thought it would be a small room with all kinds of mechanical "tables" but in all actuality, it is a huge room and lots of space with limited navigation tables.
3 days later, I talked Chris into doing a kitchen tour. After the tour, they served brunch/lunch and champagne. It was $40 per person and a one-and-done, but we met a nice group of people and had great conversation. It was nice to see where they make the food and learn about 4 kitchens to cover every dining experience. 3 floors of main dining and 1 for room service roulette.
They talked about the tests they do for the food service to make sure the food and water are safe to ingest. They were doing testing the day we left port and they received 98% through code enforcement.
Lunch was after. I had Caesar salad, seafood pasta and a caramel flan. Champagne was flowing and we had a great time.
